Chearsley enters Bucks Best Kept Village 2019

The Parish Council has decided to enter the Buckinghamshire Best Kept Village Competition 2019.

The competition provides an opportunity to show that we care about our village and are proud of it. Chearsley falls in the category of villages with a population between 500 and 1500 inhabitants.

Marks are awarded following an unannounced visit by three judges during June and July and the marking criteria include:

  • Commons, greens, playing fields, children’s play areas
  • Nature conservation areas
  • Village hall, community centre, church hall
  • General environmental features (hedges, verges, ditches, pond, stream, pump)
  • Areas around shops and pubs
  • Bus stops and bus shelters
  • Notice boards
  • Cemetery, graveyard, war memorial
  • Overall appearance, lack of litter and evidence of community effort

The Parish Council will do what we can to help us win this competition, but we recognise also the efforts undertaken by many in our community to help keep our village an attractive place to live. We hope that the decision to enter the competition this year will bring recognition of that but perhaps also encourage us all to think again about what we can do to contribute, e.g. by tidying up the areas immediately adjacent to our homes, picking up any litter we see around the village and generally providing that evidence of community effort.

Let's all prove just how much we do care about our village.
